About EduPlateCompany ProfileEduPlate provides a unique solution which addresses a critical area that is required to make U. S. education reform a legitimate and achievable goal. The company’s philosophy is simple… provide a practical proven educational tool that empowers the child and parents/guardians and facilitates sharing instructional responsibility between the school and the home.
EduPlate HistoryFounded in 2007, EduPlate is evolving as one of the few resources for delivering real solutions for America’s #1 national social crisis…Illiteracy. EduPlate is the brainchild of Michael J. Puig, President of the company. Having graduated with a business degree and having worked in several fields of business including the manufacturing and the financial industry, Puig felt an urge to do more for his community and society. Back in the late 90’s, Puig found his way to the classroom at an elementary school in Denton, TX. To his surprise, the move to education seemed effortless and extremely rewarding. Having grown up in South Texas, Puig's ability to speak both English and Spanish has always proven to be quite beneficial. For the subsequent five years, Puig taught second and third grade bilingual students in both the Denton and Carrollton-Farmers Branch school districts. After another two years of teaching high school Spanish, Puig decided to leave education, although the thought of helping students remained his passion. His time in the classroom taught him that too many young students were highly at-risk of not graduating and how this social issue could eventually impact our nation’s future in a very negative way. After attending a Literacy Summit in Dallas, TX in 2006, Puig reaffirmed his belief that there must be a better way to prepare all children to succeed academically. He felt that empowering the child and providing an educational tool for parents and children was not only necessary, but critical to the millions of children who are not exposed to any researched based literacy building tools until they enter school. Countless research confirms the company’s belief that education begins at home, with parents assuming the role of their child’s first teacher. Worst case, children learn from the simple exposure to EduPlates where they begin making connections of the written word. Realizing the life changing impact his idea could have on a child and the effects illiteracy is having on our country, Puig pushed forward with this innovative concept and is now having a real influence on children and their communities. Michael J. Puig resides in Carrollton, TX with his wife Aida. He has two sons (22 and 17). Puig graduated from Texas A & M University with a marketing degree. As of November 2009, EduPlates will be available at retail stores in Texas with a national roll-out within two months. The company's mission is to make EduPlates available to as many families as possible through different venues. |
